Nadia Letaief Ghoula

Arabic Calligrapher and Arabesque Artist

Specializing in the Kairouan style of Arabic calligraphy, I first create each artwork by hand before refining it with digital tools, while faithfully respecting the traditional principles of Arabic calligraphy and arabesque.

Each artwork begins with manual work: calligraphic letters and arabesque motifs are drawn by hand, with particular attention given to proportions, rhythm, and compositional harmony.

“Each letter carries a light, each word becomes a work of art.”

— NadiaArabesque

This hybrid approach does not replace artistic craftsmanship—it extends and enriches it.

My Artistic Journey

From Invocation to Art

My artistic journey began with the study of Arabic calligraphy and arabesque at the National Center for the Arts of Calligraphy in Tunis (المركز الوطني لفنون الخط). This education introduced me to several styles of Arabic calligraphy and enabled me to acquire their fundamental principles.

Over the years, I chose to devote myself primarily to the Kairouan style of Arabic calligraphy, whose elegance, simplicity, and cultural heritage deeply resonate with my artistic sensibility.

After many years of creating calligraphy and arabesque compositions by hand, I gradually embraced digital art. This evolution does not represent a break with traditional art, but rather its natural continuation. Each artwork is first created by hand and then further developed using digital tools, allowing me to explore new possibilities in composition, color, and ornamentation.

My goal is to preserve the principles and foundations of Arabic calligraphy and arabesque while placing contemporary technologies at the service of artistic creation.

خطّاطة ومصمّمة فنية

Kairouan Kufic is one of the major styles of Arabic calligraphy. It was developed in Kairouan, the historic city of Tunisia, between the 9th and 11th centuries. It is distinguished by its geometric forms, visual balance, and the elegance of its proportions.

This style is notably represented in several prestigious Qur'anic manuscripts produced around the 11th century. Among the finest examples is the manuscript known as Mushaf al-Hadina (مصحف الحاضنة), calligraphed and illuminated by Ali al-Warraq, which remains a major reference for calligraphers and researchers alike.
